This painting depicts women sitting around in ceremony, represented by the ‘u’ shape. Yaritji often depicts the stories of the women and everyday life in her Tjukurpa, so when the new medium of sand was introduced, this was a natural representation of her painting subject. Yaritji was able to use these symbols and, despite a challenging concept, put them into a more contemporary composition. The combination of a more simple composition, and the new medium of sand and simple background, translates to the shapes being more organic and ‘floating’.
