Tina Napangardi Martin
Tina Napangardi Martin Robertson was born in 1960 in Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community located 290 km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Her parents and grandparents are deceased, and she has one sister who lives in the community of Laramba near Napperby Station.
Tina attended the local school in Yuendumu and lived there for most of her life. She now lives in Nyirripi after marrying her second husband, Douglas Wilson. They have one son, born in 1997, and Tina also has five adult children from her first marriage.
She has been painting with the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation since 1996. When the art centre began exploring printmaking in 1997, Tina started screen printing and batik. However, it was not until 2007, when her children were grown, that she was able to paint regularly.
Tina paints her father’s Jukurrpa stories, including Yurrampi Jukurrpa (Honey Ant Dreaming) and Janyinki Jukurrpa (Yanyinki Dreaming). She also paints Ngalyipi Jukurrpa (Snake Vine Dreaming) and more recently Pulundari Jukurrpa (Mushroom Dreaming).
