Gabriel Maralngurra

Gabriel Maralngurra was born and grew up in Oenpelli, a community in northern Arnhem Land. He has been one of the driving forces behind Injalak Arts & Crafts since it first began as an Adult Education Centre in 1986.

Gabriel attended courses in screenprinting and, as an active committee member, has served terms as President and Treasurer.

In addition to producing paintings and limited-edition prints, Gabriel has travelled extensively as an ambassador for Injalak throughout Australia and, in 1995, to Shanghai, China, representing Injalak at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade exhibition of paintings from the Kuwinjku Seasonal Calendar.

In 1993, he accompanied Lawrence Nganjmirra to the award ceremony for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Commission Art Awards.

Gabriel has participated in group exhibitions in Fremantle, Darwin, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne, as well as in Finland.
