Andrea Mimpitja Adamson
Andrea was born in Alice Springs and grew up and attended school in Amata on the APY Lands in South Australia. She came from a family of well-known artists, her grandfather being Tiger Palpatja from Tjungu Palya in Nyapri. It was in Nyapri that Andrea learned to paint from her grandfather, Tiger. Her aunt on her mother’s side was Angkatji Rini Tiger, also a well-known artist. Andrea was only allowed to paint Wanampi and Seven Sisters Dreaming stories, as well as stories from her country, such as spinifex, grass, water, and rockholes.
Andrea worked in the Amata community office and also at Amata Centrelink.
She lived in Adelaide with her grandmother and the artist Nellie Patterson, who helped her as she was unwell.
