Julie Woods

Julie is a well-known artist with Papulankutja Artists. She was born at Irrunytju (Wingellina) in Western Australia and grew up across the border in South Australia at Kanpi, where her parents moved when she was young. She later attended Yirara College in Alice Springs.

Julie was taught to paint by her grandmother and inherited her grandmother’s stories from Irrunytju, including a sacred site associated with two travelling sisters and Ku Ala, a sacred women’s site south of Irrunytju. Julie’s distinctive style reflects the influence of artists from Tjungu Palya.
