Monica Watson
Monica Puntjina Watson is a Pitjantjatjara artist from Pipalyatjara, Western Australia. She was born around 1940 at Pukara, an important rockhole and water‑snake Tjukurpa (Dreaming) site. Monica grew up walking with her family to Pukatja (Ernabella) and worked in the craft room there. She later married Wimitja Watson, a Ngangkari (traditional healer), and raised a large family.
Monica paints with Ninuku Arts, creating vibrant works known for their striking use of colour and intricate dot borders. She draws on her connection to Country, her ancestral Dreamings, and her family’s cultural knowledge. Monica is regarded as a senior artist and respected elder of her community, and her work is included in exhibitions and collections across Australia.
