Surparkra Jugadai

Surparkra is the son of Ikuntji Artists’ founding member Narputta Nangala Jugadai and internationally acclaimed artist Timmy Jugadai. He began painting as a teenager, using cut-up old canvas tents and paints from his school. He learned his skills from his mother and from Dolcy Nangala (Timmy’s ex-wife).

In 1992, Surparkra’s mother and other women painters from Haasts Bluff founded the Ikuntji Women’s Centre. Surparkra began painting seriously in 2010. He paints the Wanampi Tjukurrpa (Snake Dreaming) at Karrinyarra and the Malu Tjukurrpa (Kangaroo Dreaming) at Yatibilong, north of Papunya.
