ASSORTED DESIGNS :

PPU135: Paulina Puruntatameri: PUPUNI JILAMARA, During ceremony on the Tiwi Islands, a series of ‘yoi’ (dances) are performed, some of which are totemic and show a narrative of newly composed songs.
Participants in these ceremonies are painted with turtiyanginari, transforming the dancers and, in some cases, providing protection against mapurtiti (spirits). These significant artistic designs are collectively called ‘Jilamara’.

CVA746: Cedric Varcoe: MILKYWAY DREAMING, Ngurunderi, Nepele, and Waiyungari are in the Milky Way. Ngurunderi came down the River Murray, creating our country with the help of Pondi, the big Murray cod. Together, they made Ngarrindjeri Country. When their work was done, Ngurunderi placed his canoe in the sky, turning it into the Milky Way, where he still lives today.

MROR414: Rosie Ross: BUSH MEDICINE PLANTS, Influenced by her daughter Margaret, Rosie paints vibrant, lively images of her country using brushes and sticks. The artists of Ampilatwatja have chosen not to depict their traditional stories, keeping them private. Instead, they paint their country—showing the plants used for food and medicine, which are vital to the survival of bush-dwellers.
