TUTANKHAMUN’S GOLDEN BURIAL MASK
This funerary mask is one of the most famous artefacts from ancient Egypt.
The gold mask was found in 1925, three years after King Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered by Englishman Howard Carter.
The mask weighs 10 kg and is said to be the likeness of Osiris, the god of the afterlife. There are verses from the Book of the Dead inscribed on the shoulders, and it is decorated with semi-precious stones, including lapis lazuli, quartz, obsidian, carnelian, turquoise, and glass paste.
