Cornelia TIPUAMANTUMIRRI

Cornelia Tipuamantumirri was a Tiwi artist and elder from the Tiwi Islands, Northern Territory, born around 1929–1930 near Pirlangimpi on Melville Island. She belonged to the Warnarringa , and her Dreaming was Jarrikalani (Turtle).

She taught traditional Tiwi weaving and dance, raised a family, and later began painting using ochres and traditional comb tools, depicting Tiwi culture, land, and sea. Her work was exhibited nationally and internationally, and is held in major collections including the National Gallery of Victoria.
