Theo Hudson
Theo (Faye) Nangala Hudson was born in 1989 at Alice Springs Hospital, the closest hospital to Nyirripi, a remote Aboriginal community located 440 km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, where her parents lived. She is the daughter of Mika and Ursula Napangardi Hudson and has older twin brothers.
Theo attended the local school until the age of 14. After leaving school, she undertook various jobs and later joined the Nyirripi Night Patrol, a service that provides safe transport, diversion from the criminal justice system, and early intervention to prevent community disorder. Theo is married and has three children.
She began painting with the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal-owned and governed art centre in Yuendumu, in 2002 at the age of 13. “I would watch my grandmother paint and listen to her stories,” she says. She began painting in earnest with the art centre in 2006.
