NGINTAKA
Willie’s painting depicts his country in remote north-western South Australia, on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara Lands. It is a Tjukurpa – a creation story. The ngintaka (perentie) is a large monitor lizard that lives in burrows under the ground. It is an important totemic animal for Anangu people. The vibrant palette and bright colours are characteristic of the desert landscape.
