Kurun Warun
Kurun Warun, born in 1966, is a member of the Gunditjmara language group and a descendant of Truganini, the last Tasmanian indigenous queen. His name means “Hissing Swan.” He lives in the Noosa hinterland of south-east Queensland.
Kurun Warun is renowned for his exceptional dot painting and his talent as a didgeridoo musician. He expresses culture through art, music and dance and has received international recognition for his work.
Beginning his artistic journey at just eight years old, Kurun Warun has become a highly sought-after artist. His dot paintings carry traditional meanings that are not always immediately visible, guiding the viewer through colour, line and space into deeper narratives.
An accomplished performer, Kurun Warun has appeared internationally, including performances in Italy and Korea, played a role in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, appeared on NBC in the United States and performed before Chelsea Clinton.
